The Rotary Club of LeRoy’s March 31st meeting via zoom started with a lovely “Good Afternoon” from the ever smiling, President Mary Margaret Ripley to the members present. The Pledge, prayer and 4-Way test followed and the introduction of its only guest, Paul Saskowski of the Batavia Club who was the program for the day.
Announcements included the guided walk for club members at the Genesee County Park on April 25th by Past President Scott McCumiskey and the much, anticipated Drive Thru Shred-It event that is happening May 8th from 8 am to Noon in the Orcon parking lot on Lake Street (Rt 19). Community members can bring their banker sized box or bags of personal documents and papers and they will be shredded on site for $10 each box or bag. No need to even leave one’s car!

Next there was a rousing discussion of the opportunity for local businesses who have been impacted by the pandemic to take advantage of the funds available from the club’s Community Re-Investment Fund. If you know of a local business who could benefit from some financial help, please feel free to suggest to them Rotary’s fund. More details available on the club’s website.

Next up was missed meetings and fines. Tracy Ford, Amy Leone, Sam Vagg, and Scott McCumiskey, all had missed meetings. Some paid fines but most had multiple make-ups! There were only two fines for the day. Amy Leone was fined for her son, Aaron’s skill and participation on his trap shooting team at LeRoy High for which he is a senior this year. Sam Vagg was fined for her much deserved mini vacation to Kansas City in January to see the Buffalo Bills play in the AFC Championship. Not only did she get to enjoy the city and see the game, but she was also interviewed by the news too! President Mary Margaret’s husband Scott Ripley was green with envy.

The program that Paul Saskowski presented to the club was on Diet and Nutrition. Since many American diets are lacking in the specific nutrients that our bodies need, Paul spoke with the club about ways to combat obesity and how to feel better. Diet, exercise and more specifically hydration are the important components to ward off diseases such as dementia, diabetes, cancer and heart issues as we age. Many thanks to Paul for his presentation!
